More about Dauphin Island, AL-
Dauphin Island, Alabama is a beautiful barrier Island on the Gulf of Mexico. Located 33 miles south of Mobile, Alabama, it is accessible by bridge from both I-10 and I-65, and there is also a car ferry to nearby Gulf Shores, AL and Fort Morgan.
Dauphin Island is a small village, made up of mostly individual beach houses and homes, with a few low-density beach rental condos, motels and other accommodations making up the balance. There are no high-rise condos on Dauphin Island to block the views as you drive down Bienville Blvd, the two-lane road that parallels the Gulf of Mexico beach; from Historic Ft. Gaines on the east side of the Island, through the center of the village, and then along the West beach to the undeveloped west end of the island.
There is a small general store (the "Ship 'n' Shore") and a few restaurants, such as The Oar House, Barnacle Bill's, Flamingo Faye's, Island BBQ, and the Pelican Pub. There are fishing charters available, a couple of hotels, some shopping, a bakery, kayak rentals, and other local businesses. The Sea Lab Estuarium, Audubon Nature Preserve, and Isle Dauphine Golf Course are all popular local attractions.
